My neighbor is having computer problems. When I went to see if I could help
him, it seems his computer is loaded with spyware etc. His 80 GB hard drive
is also partitioned as 16GB active Fat32 and the other is 63GB NTFS. I was
going to just wipe his drive clean, repartition, and reload XP. The problem
is that he only has recovery disks that came with the PC, no dedicated OS
disk. Am I able to wipe the drive and repartition or is there another way
that I can accomplish this? Thanks for any help or suggestions that any one
can supply

Recovery CDs vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but in general, they
are designed to erase the hard disk and put it back into the exact state it
was in when it left the factory. Therefore, I doubt you'll be given the
opportunity to make your own partitions. Still, it may be worthwhile to
check with the computer manufacturer.

If you can't repartition with the recovery CDs you'll need to purchase third
party partitioning software.
