Repairing XP Pro installation

I started Windows up after trying to install a new motherboard (too big for
case) and replaced the old one back.

It came up with a missing file. I shut down and restarted. Now it comes with
the Windows XP splash screen for about one second then quickly flashes the
blue crash screen (too fast to read anything) then restarts the computer.

I have tried every boot option and ran a extensive DSKCHK. I tried the BOOT
LOG start, but where is the log? Cannot find it.

I thought there was an install option where you could repair the current
installion replacing Windows back to its original first condition without
loosing the configuration data/application installs.

So I end up installing another copy of Windows XP Pro on the drive and it
works fine.
What about copying some of the files over to the old directory?

Not totally sure which ones I would copy. I do not want to copy too much and
end up with another copy of the same exact OS I just installed.

Thanks for any insight.

I am a gaming freak, so updating my hardware happens almost every other
month, usually end up replacing/reinstalling my windows XP since i get the
same 0x000000007B error. I think it has to do with the activation of XP,
when you replace certain hardware components XP needs to be reactivated, but
my/your reactivation does not start correctly and you/i get the blue screen.
I wonder if somebody knows how to fix this problem it does get anoying after
a couple of reinstalls. My XP does get the sp1 and all the updates from the
website everytime I reinstall, so it can't be outdated.
