Repairing a 2k install after replacing the motherboard

OI have suffered a motherboard failure and replaced the
motherboard. It is substantially different and will no
longer boot, I have tried the repair function but this has
not helped. I would rather not reinstall from scratch due
to the sheer volume of installed apps, is there any way to
prompt a fresh detection and install of all hardware
without reinstalling all of the apps on the install?

Thanks in advance

Tried this already, though it didnt take very long, it
simply checks existing files, doesnt go through the
standard install process however, then reboots and fails
as usual...all essential data was stored on the server, no
local backups done for this machine however.

Thanks for the input tho, sounds like a reinstall :(

Sounds like you're doing a "Repair" and not the full "In Place
Upgrade". Your result is what I'd expect from a "Repair", it
won't fix your problem. An "In Place Upgrade" WILL fix your
problem. When you do an "In Place Upgrade" it will take just as
long as it took to install Windows 2000 in the first place and
will go through all the same screens and actions.

When you boot from your Win2k CD it will ask if you want to
Repair an existing installation or do a new install. Choose new
install. It will then do some hardware inspection and "Discover"
that there's an existing installation. It will then ask you for
the second time if you want to Repair the existing installation
or do a new install. Choose Repair.

That ought to do it.

my mistake, pressed r too early. Got further now but have
a different error :/ Thanks again for the input

Normally, unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the
old one (same chipset, IDE controllers, etc), you'll most likely need
to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the
very least (and don't forget to reinstall any service packs and
subsequent hot fixes):
