I have a problem previously posted here and other places that no one has
been able to help with.
I now would like to know what programs I can run, from run command, that
will help check out and repair my XPpro system without requiring a major
project as MS repair install would.
Thank you
SG

I am not aware of any program that can check for every possible type of
problem, much less repair every possible problem. Unless there is a specific
problem you wish to check for, you may want to perform a repair install or
perhaps bring your computer to a professional technician.

Hi,

You want a single fix-all for every problem, and that simply isn't going to
happen. Please be specific about what problem you are having. Some things
can be fixed from a command prompt, others can't. Nor is there any one
system tool that can fix them all. To get proper guidance, you need to give
specific information.

Perhaps I did not make myself clear. I do not expect a one fix magic
program.
I was hoping for a list of callable routines such as scandisk which will
test for disk problems and ANY that might check for errors in operating
system. I thought that there were some that would check for bad modules in
XPpro and allow reloading/repairing then. Wasn't that one of the big pluses
of Pro over Home?
The ongoing problem is that running Quicken I get delays up to 15 seconds
where it appears system is gathering data. Using task manager "affinity" to
turn off one cpu the problem goes away. I already have run and rerun many
spy-virus programs,Cleaned up trash and temp files, Defragmented,
uninstalled and reloaded program direct to c root. I do not want to use
Restore as something caused it to be OFF for a long time unknown to me. I
have 3.2 g P4 and 1gb mem with no other user programs running.
My previous posts shows that it also runs proper in safe mode but not with
all "do not load" selections in normal boot.

You made yourself sufficiently clear the first time. No version of Windows
that I am aware of can check for undefined "errors in the operating system".
Moreover, if you're having a problem with Quicken you're asking in the wrong
place.

Ted Thanks for your replies even though I feel they are greatly lacking in
information.I get more useful information in XP groups on IRC.
I strongly feel it is a XP related problem, either a bad file or similar
damaged. I HAVE talked extensively with Quicken and Quicken groups and feel
that they are not the problem.Pass the buck.

Hi,

The particular command you are thinking of is "sfc /scannow", but that aids
in detecting and replacing corrupt system files. As to why quicken is
bogging down, I can't help you. I don't, and won't, ever use their software
as all I ever hear and see about it are bugs and performance problems which
the vendor is unwilling to resolve.

The only thing I would add to what has been said is to clean boot to see if
there is something (antivirus?) causing the slowdown. In mscongif turn off
all startup items and non Microsoft services and reboot and see if the
problem is still there. If it is it is most likely Quicken related not XP
related.

The only thing that would check system files apart from sfc /scannow is a
repair install.

Thanks Rick that was the command I was looking for. Unfortunately or
fortunately it found no problem and my annoyance remains.
