Repair with Win xp pro

Hi, I had to repair the O/S Win XP Pro. I inserted the CD, bought and paid
for been checked a million times by M$. I selected the second repair 'R'.
It failed and did a full install. Why?
I had a backup done with Win xp, that did not work either What went wrong?
I asked this question on the M$ help group. Not a lot of help there.

Are you sure? A repair install looks exactly like a clean install once it begins. The difference is that all installed programs and data will remain.

Thx for that and all in pictures, That is just what happened. The only
difference was mine went complete install, like change language, keyboard,
network and the rest for a full install. I lost all the 'My Document' stuff
including pictures, music, video and more. I did not worry as I had done a
back up using the Windows XP Pro system. Still got it in fact, but it don't
install.
