Repair the client-side cache?

I had been using Windows' file synchronization on Windows XP
Professional with mixed success; ultimately I scaled back to
synchronizing only a few files. However, C:\WINDOWS\CSC remained huge: >
2GB. After going through several contortions to try to get Windows to
recognize that the database should be shrunk, I did something in my
frustration that was probably rather foolish: I manually deleted a bunch
of files in the CSC directory.

Now, I'm unable to make anything available offline. I get error messages
like this:

Offline Files (\\Oblivion\bmcdaniel on Exhalted High Domain Server
(Oblivion)): Unable to make '.bash_profile' available offline on
\\oblivion\bmcdaniel. The system cannot find the file specified.

Is there some way to re-initialize the client-side cache, or otherwise
repair what I've done?

Hope that helps. I've made very little use of Offline Files, thus far, so
I'm not sure of the efficacy of that process.

Yes, it was precisely what I needed.

The fact that you cannot delete a directory when offline was limiting
for me. I was trying to use subversion (revision control tool)
repositories as offline files. However, there were operations I needed
to perform using the subversion client when offline that needed to
delete directories. So, I've had to find a different way to manage those
repositories. Offline files works reasonably well for ordinary documents
as well as some config files that tools I use put in %HOME%.

Thanks again...
