WinXP SP2, latest patches
After reboot, IE comes up with my home page OK. When I try to get to another
site via a link or by typing (copying) a new Address the browser takes a
long time and then comes up with a window named Cannot Find Server and the
message inside is The page cannot be displayed ... and gives instructions
about the Connection. Following these does not result in anything.
Same happens in trying to get to links from the NG, like
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups or when trying to go Back on a page.
I again get Cannot Find Server ..... The only way to get the IE broweser
back is to reboot. So trying to find a solution is a constant reboot. I also
rebooted to Safe mode with Networking, it fixed it, but when I returned to
normal mode it would take two three clicks and I am shut out again. I wish I
could somehow isolate the culprit. I went into msconfig and disabled all
programs and services and then one by one enabled them but I was
unsuccessful in finding out what the cause is. I even repaired WinXP
(thinking I may be missing some files) but I guess all the configurations
remained behind and resurfaced again.
Is there a better, smarter way, short of reinstalling WinXP completely?
Thank you
Pavel
