Repair Fails

I received a WordPerfect document from a colleague, and Word 2003 (Office
Basic Edition) informed me that the translator wasn't installed. At its
suggested I tried to install it, but it got part of the way and then
reported an error.

I inserted the Office CD and ran the repair utility. It started to repair,
but then also failed with an error. The error occurred when it was
updating
the registry.

So, I tried running it in safe mode, but it couldn't access what it needs,
noting this problem can occurs when a repair is attempted in that mode.

What's the next step?

Try removing Word through Add/Remove Programs or if it is installed as a
part of Office suite, insert the office disk, choose the option to add or
remove components, remove word, reboot and reinstall it and see if that
resolves the issue.

A couple of ideas. One you could try clearing your Temp directory. It is in
the hidden directory "Local Settings" found at c:\Documents and
Settings->"logon username"->Temp. Another thing to try is to copy the
contents of the Office CD to your Hard Drive and then try installing from
there.
