Reorg of our AD

Greetings

Here is how its setup here...

domain was created x.y.com who our DC's are in x.y.com

They are no DC under the y.com

My question :

I want to chnage the whole thing so we use y.com. since I have no dc under
y.com should i be able to put up a server has a dc under y.com and move every
object under x.y.com to the parent?

Even if You will create now a y.com domain it doesn't mean that it is a
parent domain for Your current AD domain - it is parent in the namespace
but not in AD.

You can setup new domain y.com and use ADMTv3 (or any other tool) to
migrate resources from x.y.com to y.com
