You will have a hard time finding a tech who will recommend Norton
(including me). I use F-Prot on my Windows machines ($30 for 4
machines), but there are many others.

Forget Norton. Go for the free version of AVG anti-virus AVG is an
excellent alternative to Norton and McAfee and the free version doesn't cost
you a penny. (www.grisoft.com) look for the free version of AVG Anti Virus
(they also do a pay for version)

There are free anti-virus programs. One I heard is OK is AVG by Grisoft.

I guess the free sites have a free version in the hopes you'll upgrade to
a better fuctioning/easier version someday.

If you wanted to stay with Norton, for a bit more you can buy the
Systemworks package, which includes anti-virus. You'll get a year uf
updates. Plus wait for a rebate sale and pay less than the3 $53.

I started with SystemWorks 2003. When my anti-virus subscription ran out I
upgraded to 2004 and got another year of anti-virus updates, and with 2
rebates (one rebate for owning a previous version) I paid $10 aftger
rebates. Then in 2005 my anti-virus updates ran out and wqith the double
rebate once again I paif $0 (only ther tax I paid in the store am I out).

One thing though, if you can get a hold of Norton SystemWorks 2004 (and
Symantec honors it - I don't see why not), I consider it better because it
came with a fantastic Password Manager. I coudn't live without it now. My
log in IDs and passwords are saved and entered in if i want it to be so.
For some reason they did not include in in 2005, but only if you had it
from 2004 you could re-install it. If you could buy 2004 somewhere, then
wait for SystemWorks 2006 (if they make one) when your anti-virus updates
run out, you'll be doing fine. The ony reason I upgraded to 2005 was
because my anti-virus updates ran out, not that 2004 had anything wrong
with it.

Be warned - if you ever have a problem it costs $29.95 to call them
voice..

See http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/ for a first year free version of
Computer Associates ETrust Antivirus. It's an excellent program (greatly
superior to the free AVG) and $19.95 for renewals after the free year Back
up your computer if possible before uninstalling Norton. It often does not
uninstall cleanly and can cause significantly problems.
