Hello everyone

We currently are in an Windows NT4 Domain, w/ Windows 2000 Active Directory
solely for the purpose of using Exchange 2000. We are planning on migrating
everyone to the Windows 2000 Active Directory domain but also want to change
the domain name in the process. Basically going from NT4 to 2000 then from
domain abc.com to def.com at the same time. Does anybody know if that is
possible and how I should go about doing this?

Thank you

Sal

Wouldn't it be much easier to upgrade the NT domain, and simply migrate your
Exchange server to the new domain? I'm not even sure if you can rename an
AD domain, but it seems like it would be the very long way around in this
case.

That is easier but I still have to rename the domain. Current NT 4 domain is
zxc and if I upgrade to Windows 2000 I want the new domain to be def.com.
How will the Workstations handle this? Profiles and so on?

Thanks

Sal

While you're still on NT 4, where the DNS names are only important insomuch
as your clients use them for lookups, why not change the domain name now?
Set a new default suffix in DHCP, and create a new zone, where you can
migrate your records. Assuming the environment isn't huge, this may work.
Then you could upgrade with the new name.
