I know that it's prohibited to try and rename a windows
2000 domain controller but how about when you have this
scenario.
I have One domain/ forest with 2 servers (lets call them
main and remote) connected via a T1 Point to Point Link
(one at each site.) Both are acting as Global CAT Server
But the "main" Server holds the FSMO role.
I recently purchased a new Server to replace the "remote"
server ,(remote server will be formatted and become a
windows xp workstation) however because of Politics i
need to have the new server using the same name as the
old. Since my "main" server holds the FSMO i don't need
to worry about transferring roles and so on . I planned
on demoting my "remote" server first to just a member
server then formatting it.
Next i was going to join my new remote server to the
existing domain and name it the same as the old server
then make it a Global cat server like the old one.
Can i do this without causing any problems with the SAMs
database since it does not hold the FSMO role ?
thanks
