I inhereted a w2K domain - single DC configuration with
about 20 computers at this point.
The domain was named XYZ.com making it difficult to
distinguish the company's internet domain name from the
Active Directory domain name. Also, I had problems with
some services that were eventually solved with the MS
knowledge base article "Reinstalling TCPIP on an Active
Directory" So I don't feel great about the quality of
the initial installation.
I want to create subdomain.XYZ.com as the local tree and
only DC behind the firewall.
I'm looking for input on the best approach. I'm not a
guru. Should I create the subdomain.XYZ.com as a tree in
the existing forest, and move all computers and users to
that subdomain, then pull the plug on the XYZ.com computer
or should I just create subdomain.XYZ.com as a new forest
and add in each computer and user from scratch.
Exchange 2k is running on XYZ.com computer also, so I
will have to move that as well.
