Renaming Member Server

I cannot find any reason why this will be an issue for me, but I am needing
to place a new system into production that has the same name as the existing
server.

Windows 2000 AD with Windows 2003 Member servers. Existing server to be
renamed to a temp name (ie SRV1 to SRV1old) and the new server will be
renamed SRV1.

The only thing I've seen is that I'll need to manually update DNS right away
if I am making any address changes. I've lab tested this with good results,
but if anyone has additional suggestions I'd appreciate hearing it.

Rename with a reboot and you shouldn't even have to touch dns or wins. It
should automagically do that for you.

I agree it should be automatic, but I've run into problems with AD computer
accounts in the past when trying to rename or establish new hosts with the
same name. Any further thoughts?

Thanks for the quick reply!
Brian

Sometimes the issue is the ACL on the DNS record is only letting the old
server update it. You can either edit the ACL on the dns record, or just
delete it and let the new server recreate it.
