Renaming HOSTS

Hello

I posted a message here yesterday which explained that I couldn't access my
Hotmail address (although I can access others, such as Yahoo!). I thought
this might have been a cookie problem, and a kind contributor suggested
deleting my Passport/Hotmail cookies (there were none) and renaming HOSTS to
HOSTS_OLD).

Windows, unfortunately, would not allow me to rename it, although, according
to the Task Manager, I had no programs open which might have been using the
HOSTS file.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks.

Steve

Some anti-spyware/bot software will lock the HOSTS file to prevent changes
being made to it. I know that Spybot S&D and SpywareBlaster both do this. If
you are using either of these products, they may be to blame.

Not by default. User must /choose/ to lock the file.

Hello

Many thanks to you both.

I'll do a search for them and remove them if found, to see if this resolves
the problem.

Cheers
