I have a few thousand Pictures files that I would like to rename.... My
Camera somehow reset itself and everytime I do a transfer - It says - File
already exists...

Is there an easy way to rename files in a batch or utility that will...

I know I can send the files to another directory... But I want to rename
them and move them to DVD

You can do this with groups of files in XP if you want them to have a common
name and consecutive numbers.

1. Open a folder with the files you want to rename.
2. Select the first file in the folder.
3. Press and hold the Shift Key and select the last file in the folder.
4. Right click the first file and select Rename from the menu.
5. position the entry point to the left of file extension and type the name
and a number in parenthesis like this: Filename (1).xxx
6. Click anywhere in the folder and all of the files will be renamed with
the same name and consecitive numbers.

You might want to separate the picture files into distinctive groups before
doing this and give each group a descriptive name.
