I'm retiring some old drives with a new, bigger drive. So the new guy
is partitioned. One of those old drives is not booted from bios but
contains XP (where I live). I'm tryng to do this without spending any
money. (See previous post).
So now I think I've got good copies on the new drive. But one never
knows. So what is my backup?
1. Xp gives you Computer management/storage/disk management tool that
lets you change drive letters and paths.
If I get in trouble I can only get to W98 and the net. Is there any
way to do the letters/paths thing if you can't get to XP?
2. If not ... then the only way I can think of, if I can't boot to XP
(oh,oh), is that I can dual boot to the original XP disk but it would
be named "X" instead of F. This is really my backup so I want to get
here to do a little renaming then get out quick.
How much damage, if any, is caused by XP seeing "X" instead of F???
Then I'll boot again with this drive, "X", renamed back to F.
and try again......
thanks
