Renaming a modem

I have 5 modems set up on my computer. The problem is they
are all the same make and model, from my dial out software
I cannot tell which is which. Is it possible to change the
name of each modem to help differentiate between each of
them? I would not mind leaving the basic name alone but
would like to add 1 or 2 charaters to the end of the name
if possible. Better would be to just rename each with a
distinctive name.

I run a monitoring service where remote computers call me
and report errors that the equipment they are attached to
have. So, I have 2 modems to accept incoming calls; 1
local modem for dial out to invetigate the error; and 2
dial out modems are at remote locations on MOXA Nport
ethernet adapters connected to T1 lines in two other
countries to limit international call phone bills for me.
So I have U.S. Robotics 56K FAX EXT PnP modems listed 5
times in my modem list on COM 1,2,5,6,and7

I would like to rename them:
In 1
In 2
Local out
{other country} out
{another country} out

For what its worth the "Name" is defined/selected in the mdm3com.inf
file for Modem13PnP. And then is used for the "friendly name" during the
install. Whether altering that file to reflect a different name and then
installing the modem again will do what you want is not known but would
seem to be a logical approach.
