Hello there,

Hi John Kelly,
Have used your version 1.3 program for the codecs problem and I like the
delete dross function a lot. Ir cleared 101.55MB of duff files (Dross as
you call it) How do I select another file type to search for.

Yes there is a way. Simply put a check mark in the small box on the right
called "User Defined Search" then when you tell it to start it will display
a dialog box showing the already defined search and giving you the
opportunity to add further file masks. Remember to separate each one with a
; and do not leave any spaces either.

A few examples of a mask are......

*A*.* This would find every file that had an "A" somewhere in the name
*A.* This would find all files whose name began with an "A"
*A.* This would find all files whose name ended with an "A"
*A*B*.* This will find any file that has both an "A" and a "B" in the
filename
A?B*.* This will find any file that has an "A" in the first position, a "B"
in the third position and any one letter between the "A" and "B"

As you can see, the search possibilities are quite good (even though I say
so myself)

A few minutes back I posted a reply to another chap....I will add it to the
end of this message ...make sure that every one sees that the program is
really about codecs and not just getting rid of Dross....Here it is.....

Because I have had several questions the same as yours today and now that
so many people have used it with out a single problem I am feeling very
confident about the programs robustness in this area. So, I have uploaded
the latest version of the program. I have not had chance to complete the
Codec Registration options (I have been out and about all day) So those
options are presently disabled. The rest of the program is fully functional
and it now has a much less strident warning.....in fact its no longer a
warning as such.....it simply requests confirmation that you actually do
want it to proceed to rename your codecs.

Codec Registration/De-registration will come on line real soon together
with a number of other features that will eliminate duplicated codecs
spread around a system. I have had quite a few emails about that. Its
actually very easy to do, its finding the time in my hectic (Retired) life
to do it that is the main problem...slowly though the program is moving
away from being a totally trivial affair into a utility good for a range of
Codec problems suitable for all types of computer user from total novice
(The Home Key is NOT the one on your key ring) to Expert (English
definition = Ex as in has been, Spert as in drip under pressure)

Best Wishes.....John Kelly
