Rename a Windows 2000 domain

Is it possible to rename a Windows 2000 domain? There
are no child domains to this domain. Exchange 2000 is
installed on the domain. If so, are there any white
papers? I see that you can rename a domain in 2003. If
it is not possible, would it best to upgrade to 2003 or
migrate - and if it would be best to migrate, is there a
white paper on that also?

The only way to rename a Win 2k domain is to run dcpromo (loose all domain
info), then run dcpormo a second time to set the proper name. Or you can
upgrade to 2003 and change the name during the upgrade.

you cannot rename if you have E2K in your forest because this implies :

1) being in mixed mode, add a NT4 BDC, shutdown all WIN2K DCs, make an offline promotion of
the NT4 BDC to PDC, upgrade to Windows 2000 again !
2) in this scheme, you loose all your AD, which includes loosing all Exchange configuration since
it's stored in the Configuration AD partition
