Rename a user profile

Hello,

I did a mistake in my username. I want to correct it, and I was able
to change the username but the default username and my user directory
is still with the error. How can I correct that?

I found the easiest way to solve this prob is just to
create a new username and then migrate your data and
settings to the new user.
 
As Josh says, create a new user with the name the way you want it to appear on the user folders, then copy the old account to the new one.

Copy a User Profile:

Open System in Control Panel. On the User Profiles tab, and under Profiles stored on this computer, click the user profile you want to copy, and then click Copy To.

In the Copy To dialog box, under Copy profile to, type the location for the new profile, or click Browse to select the path.
Click Change to open the Choose User dialog box, click a new user from the Names list, and then click Add. The new user name will appear in Add Name. Click OK to add the user as a new user profile on your computer.

Note: You must be logged on as an administrator to the local computer to copy user profiles. To open a Control Panel item, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.

You can not be logged on to the account you are copying from or the account
that you are copying to.

You could create a temporary account in the Administrator group. Log on to
that. Do your profile copying. Check that all is okay with those other
accounts (test by logging on to the target account that you are fixing up).
When satisfied that all is okay, delete the temporary account.
 
As Sharon said, either create a temporary account with Administrator privileges, or use the built in Administrator account.

For XP Pro: Press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the Welcome Screen, with no users logged on, and you'll get the old Win2K style logon. Enter Administrator and any password that you may have assigned this account at setup.

XP Home: Boot the computer into Safe Mode and you'll see the built in Administrator account on the Welcome Screen.
