rename a computer

I am looking for a way to rename a computer with a
script. The machine isn't part of a domain and I have
locked down the local group policy so that I can't do it
the normal way.

any help is appreciated.

Can you, perhaps, temporarily *unlock* the local policy?

It is not in a domain, but is it connected to a network. It might be
possible to do this remotely, assuming that you have the name and password
of an account that has the privs necessary to do this.
