Removing xp components that were installed by default

Question:

Using the technique of deleting the "hide" command in the
sysoc.inf file, I saw a bunch of xp components that could
be removed in the Add/Remove function.

Has anyone had any luck or bad luck removing these
various programs (like both instances of Messenger)?

What can you get away with?
