Hi, i have dell laptop, running windows 2000 professional,
Service pack 3....after experience some problems due to
some downloads from Windows update site, i started to
realize there are a LOT of programs i'd like to remove
that i don't use....

I USE MS Word a lot....but i also have in ADD REMOVE
microsoft works suite 2001 and something called microsoft
add-in for microsoft word, and something else called the
works installer...i do not use these programs, even
windows tells me i use them "rarely"...

after reading from this site how to remove them i guess i
realize it isn't as easy as simply clicking remove from
the ADD REMOVE programs in the CONTROL PANEL...the
instructions say, IF i'm reading them right, that i have
to use the CD for WORKS and go through the steps outlined
in Q239970 "Works 2000: How to Change the Works 2000
Installation" I have a couple of questions...

first, have I read the article above correctly? Is this
the ONLY way to UNistall Works Suite? OR can it simply be
removed in a simpler way from the ADD REMOVE portion of
the control panel?

second, when i clicked on the frequency of use link in the
ADD REMOVE programs on these three progams i'd like to get
rid of, they ALL said that the last time I used them was
May 24th. in fact, i NEVER used them on that day. BUT that
day WAS the day of a number of critical downloads from the
update site. given what i have come to understand about
how interconnected all this stuff is (i'm NOT a tech or
inclined that way), will UNinstalling these programs
affect the performance or functionality of my system. i
HAVE to assume that whatever the downloads were, and i
have a list of them by number that i made on that day,
somehow affected or changed the Works programs I'd like to
get rid of?

All I want is simple MS WORD. and ANY help in answering
these questions would really be appreciated. thank you so
much.

Whether or not you uninstall Works, you should uninstall the Microsoft Works
Suite Add-in for Word, which causes many problems in Word run freestanding.
If you choose to uninstall Works, you will be prompted to insert the CD as
needed. If the uninstall routine doesn't ask for the CD, then it's not
needed.
