How do I remove wave files from a PPt 2003 presentation so
that I can insert the much smaller MP3 files.

I have tried removing the speaker Icon on the slide that
the wave file begins, but the file size changed little.

I also did a cut & paste of the slides into a new file
and had the same result.

Any suggestions?

Dave

Since the file size changed only a little, it's possible that the original
WAVs were only linked, not embedded in the first place.

How big are those WAVs, and what do you have specified in Tools/Options/link
sound files greater than XX kb?

Also, do you have Allow Fast Saves turned on in Tools/Options?

Generally speaking, deleting the sound icon should delete the sound.

Save the presentation as an HTML, which extracts all embedded multimedia
files and puts them into a separate folder. Copy the audio file into your
presentation folder and trash the rest of the HTML stuff. Edit the audio
file to your desired format and reinsert.

Hi Dave,

Check all the presentation elements in custom animation
and make sure the wav file isn't associated with an
object. You may have to turn an animation back on, change
the sound effect to no sound and then turn the animation
back off.

Hi Dave,

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for
although, as others have shown there are manual and, probably, VBA
workarounds.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide better content management tools for finding, changing, replacing,
deleting, etc. linked and embedded content (without have to resort to VBA
or 3rd party add-ins), don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
