Fred

I bought a used computer with W-2000 installed.The previous
owner had cleaned the hard drive of all of his personal
files and in the process rendered some of the operating
system inoperable. I would like to remove the remnants of
W2000 and install w-98 second edition. Unfortunatly, in my
case, the protective features of the operating system won't
let me format the hard drive. Please Help

Fred

Greetings!
Can you boot with a win98 start diskette and then when
get to DOS at A:\> prompt do the proper fdisk (FIRST) and
then format?

Hello volkswagen :-)

IIRC w98 fdisk will deny attempts to delete ntfs partitions.
You will have to use a different fisk like xfdisk
http://www.mecronome.de/xfdisk/files/xfd093en.zip

There is also a utility called delpart.exe that will delete a NTFS
partition from a DOS bootup
http://www.ntfaq.com/download/delpart.exe

Or google for further solutions
http://www.google.com/groups?q=fdisk+delete+"ntfs+partition"
