I want to buy a new machine and it comes with Vista, what are the
consequences and/or potential problems I might run into doing this?

There are potential problem in anything you do, especially if you've never
done it before.

That said, I've been running Vista Ultimate here since November 18, and
haven't had a single problem with it. I recommend it.

Into doing what? Your subject line or the body of your message?

If the subject line... Possibly support for your computer will be lost.
Anything that was installed on the system when you bought it won't be there
unless you put it back there (if you get installation media for any of it.)

If the body... A new machine with Vista will probably run just fine - as it
likely comes with hardware that Vista identifies and works with well. Just
don't try necessarily hooking anything else to it without looking for the
proper Vista drivers before you do.

The main thing you would want to do is download the XP driver for your
network card and save it to a usb drive or CD. That's all you really need to
go out and get any drivers that XP doesn't load automatically. I'm not sure
how long XP will be supported, I'm guessing at least another 6 years so I
wouldn't worry about support. Also, if you're downgrading due to a company
saying their software isn't supported on Vista, I would just try it first,
before doing this.
