Until yesterday I could boot up my machine and not have to
identify with who I was as I had never set up a formal
user. Now I have to click on an icon to open windows. It's
bothersome. How do I revert to the way it was.

Hi

Try this:

From Start>Run type in

control userpasswords2

then uncheck 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer' and click 'Apply'. On the next screen - 'Automatically Log On' - delete the name 'Administrator' from the User name box and enter your account name and then the password in the next two boxes. OK your way out and then reboot your system.

Hi,

This may have to do with Net Framework. If so, is best to find a workaround
in lieu of deleting the added user as you will need it before not. In the
meantime:

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name
and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.

Tip:

Add Control UserPasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

If you prefer to hide the added user/s either go to: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

Add the username you wish to hide as a DWORD value. Set the value to 0
(zero). This will prevent the user from showing up on the welcome screen.
You will need to press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the logon screen to get the old
Win2K logon, to be able to logon to the account you've hidden.

Or use: TweakUI:
