Has anyone come across a **foolproof** way of removing Windows withou
losing all or some of the installed drivers and application dll's etc
Useful if someone buys a new PC but has their own OS

Surely if you uninstall Windows to install a different OS the drivers and
applications will no longer work anyway?

Such perfection does not exist due to differences between computers
other than identical twins.

No, I have not the intention of installing another operating system
just removing Windows. At the moment, I remove the Registry records o
product codes and most windows folders manually so that when a custome
puts their own Windows over the top, the drivers are still intact. It i
just time consuming and there must be an easier way.

Are you selling new computers and including a Retail version of
Windows XP with them?

You should consider using the OEM version (less expensive for one
thing) and using the OEM Preinstall procedure which will accomplish
what you want. If the computers your are building are basically the
same, especially the motherboard, then you can create an image file
for the O/S and just copy that to the hard drive of each new computer.

Good luck

Not only is there no "foolproof" way to do it, it cannot be done at
all. The OS is the foundation upon which all else rests.

Useful if someone buys a new PC but has their own OS.

Hardly. Even if it were possible to remove and replace the OS, one
would still also have to reinstall each and every application anyway, in
order to recreate the hundreds (possibly thousands) of registry entries
and to replace the dozens (possibly hundreds) of essential system files
back into the appropriate Windows folders and sub-folders.
