On each program you don't want to start automatically, check its
Options to see if it has the choice not to start. Many can easily
and best be stopped that way. If that doesn't work, run MSCONFIG
from the Start | Run line, and on the Startup tab, uncheck the
programs you don't want to start automatically.

It is true that one can stop starting a program as mentioned in the answers
to this problem but they are problematic too. Each time you start the
windows, it is announcing that the windows is running in troubleshooting
mode (perhaps some similar phrase is displayed) Surprisingly there does not
seem any registry key that list all the programs so that we can delete them.
Could anybody help please?

Joan,
In addition, he can obtain "Startup Cop" or "Startup Control Panel" [the
first is available from PC Mag's site; the latter is from Mike Lin]. Both
are available free.
