Removing Sony Ericsson desktop icon

G

Guest

I recently bought a Sony Ericsson z520 cellphone and downloaded the Sony
Ericsson PC Suite to synchronize the phone with my PC. The program installs
an icon on the desktop which cannot be removed. The icon is not necessary as
the program is accessible from START>ALL PROGRAMS.

Does anybody know how to remove icons like this? It is NOT a shortcut as
there is no arrow on the icon. The right-click menu does not offer an option
to delete the icon. Even if you create a folder on the desktop and drag the
icon to it, all that happens is that a shortcut is created in the folder and
the original program icon remains on the desktop. Sony Ericsson tech support
has no clue on how to get rid of this icon.

Anybody?
TIA

Try: To remove: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to one of these keys
or both:

Desktop Icons
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

Control Panel Icons
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace

My Computer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

Did you install this app directly on the Desktop? sounds like it. As
far as installing apps is concerned the desktop is just another
folder. Sony make nice kit but their software coding is woefuly bad.

Uninstall it via Add/Remove then re-install ensuring to set the
install location to C/Program Files.
