Removing search in address bar

My address bar changed recently. I now have a search address space to
the right of the url address that I don't want. I can remove it by
unchecking "search" under view in the menu & it's gone. The next time
I start ie6 it's back. I'm running winxp home. Any way to get rid of
it?

Thanks for the links Mike, I'll keep them for future reference.

I found another post that suggested unchecking "enable 3rd party
browser ext." in internet options/advanced & that fixed it.
