Removing Past Items in Customize Notifications Window

Right click Task Bar > Properties > Customize then Past Items ....
The icons in the Past Items window seem to be corrupted as the icons do
not match the details of the icons and the icons load very slowly on startup .
How do I remove a past item from the Past Items list in the Customize
Notification window .
