I went to the following site:

http://www.pchell.com/support/aboutblank.shtml

it says to look in the registry for:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

I don't have an AppInit_DLLs in that directory? Is there a new variant of
about:blank.

or am I reading it wrong. Just before AppInit_DLLs there are two \\, does
that signify something other then the directory?

HI,
That AppInit_Dlls value will be found in WinXP and Win2K. Are you running
Win 95, 98, ME? I think they use the double \ on that page to indicate that
AppInit_DLLs is a value (right pane) rather than a key.

Have you tried these methods (farther down on that page?)

VBSCRIPTS REMOVAL METHOD

A company called Silent Runners has come up with several Visual Basic
Scripts used in conjunction with Registar Lite 2.0 to remove the About:Blank
version of the CWS Cool Web Search hijacker.

AUTOMATIC REMOVAL METHOD

A new adware removal program called Adware Away (free trial available) has
proven very successful in removing the About:Blank homepage hijacker ... (

I've read a report that Panda Titanium Anti-virus can remove this See:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/titanium2004/ You can try the product
before you buy it.

I've also seen a report or two that Ad-awareSE, with the latest updates,
will remove some versions of this.

Or, something in Jim Byrd's post at http://snipurl.com/9o98 may help.

Hope this helps,
Don
