Subject kinda says it all. How do you remove movie maker from windows
xp any service pack?

Joseph

Movie Maker is a system component. it cannot be removed easily. Even when
you do it would only save you a few Mbs of disk space. What is the reason
you want to remove it?

If it is a system component, what relies on it? IMHO It should be an
OPTIONAL component at best. Maybe as an add-on to windows media player
(which should also be an optional component...)

It boils down to the fact that I don't want it junking up my system. I
found a method for the removal of messenger, now I am focusing on movie
maker.

Now then, if you would please, how do I go about uninstalling / removing it?

Thank you.

That's just a feature of sfp. There has to be a file or component list
somewhere that can tell me what files outside of it's directory it needs...

I would think that windows could still function without it. Do you know
what relies on movie maker being installed and functional?

Joseph,

Have you tried soliciting help in the
"microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup_deployment" news group? A lot of techies
hang out there and more likely to be able to help. People in this NG are
more about use of MM.

No, I don't know if anything relies on Movie Maker being installed and
functional... all I know is that the DLLs and EXE get refreshed from backup
files if you delete them.

I'm sure it's possible but I don't understand why anyone would want to do it
for any practical reason... the space used by the app is too small to
warrant the efforts needed to surgically remove it.

If you figure it out, I'd like to know how.

Perhaps you could direct that energy into something worthwhile and
constructive....MM does not "gunk up" a computer; it is completely benign.
You should find other things to "worry" about.

It's a control thing.
Some people just like to be in total control all the time regardless of
whether or not it's a waste of energy.
