I'm attempting to remove/disable a pci modem from a w2k
workstation but it causes a memory dump. Not sure what
steps to take.

Hi Acmathis,

1. Have you taken the modem out of the pci slot?
2. What happened after you rebooted after the removal?

W2k should have removed the modem itself.

3. If not, boot to safe mode, (as administrator) F8 at boot.
3.1 right click "My Computer" and then properties.
3.2 go to the hardware tab and then device manager
3.3 click the modem + and right click your modem
3.4 remove the modem and reboot back into W2k

4. To install any hardware into W2k, when the computer boots, the hardware
should be found and then allow you to install the drivers, either by using
the Widnows drivers or your hardware drivers.
4.1 if windows installs the drivers for the hardware, go to the device
manager again and do the properties and change the driver. Make sure you
have the CD or floppy available because you will need it.
