Hi,

Is there a way to have Outlook leave the email on the server but then delete it if I move the email
from my Inbox to a different folder? I know I can have it deleted from the server if I delete it
from Outlook or after a certain number of days...

But I I get an email and I have it set to leave on the server in case I need emails frmo home...
But I want the email off the server but I dont' want to delete it. How can this be done? I know I
could just set the Delete after XX days to a couple weeks or something but is there any way to set
it so it does a "Delete if message is moved from Inbox"? Can this be set up as a macro or filter or
anything?

Thanks.

Create a second personal folders file, move the messages you wish to have
removed from the server to it, then do a send/receive. Moving a message to
a different personal folders file is effectively the same as deleting it
from "Deleted Items". Once you've done the send/receive after the move, you
can move the message back to your default personal folders file if you
like - that won't add it to the server.

I'm not worried about moving it back but here's the scenario.

Outlook Settings:
Leave Mail On Server - Yes
Delete when removed from Deleted Items - Yes

I have my normal Inbox (obviously)
Then I have folder set up for certain topics.
When an email comes in Outlook, if it has to do with one of the topics that I have a folder for, I
move it to that folder.

Are you saying that when I move it to that folder, then the next time Outlook checks for new
messages it will remove that message from the server? If so, that's Great because that's what I
want. It's just not clear it will do that from the settings or help info I found.

Well to answer my own question... that didn't work.

In my Folder List I currently have the top heading set as: Outlook Today - [Personal Folders]
Then I have folders underneath that. Did you mean to create a second of the original Personal
Folders? If so, How do I do that? I could only see how to add a folder underneath that.

Thanks.

Yes, I mean create a second Personal Folders *file*, not another folder. In
Outlook 2002, you can go to Tools -> Options -> Mail Setup -> Data Files...
to create a new file. I'm not sure whether it's the same in Outlook 2000,
as I don't have a copy handy.

OK

That's what I wasn't sure how to do so I tried it.

Unfortunately it still didn't work.

Here's what I did.

In outlook I set the email to Leave Mail On Server and Remove when Deleted from Deleted Items.
I created a new Personal Folder fil (named it test.pst)
I sent myself 2 test emails
They alleared in my inbox and showed up on the web email site.

I moved one of the emails to the new test folder which is off by itself, NOT under the original
Personal Folders listing.
I did a send/receive just to refresh everything.
I then checked the web email site and both messages were still there.
It didn't work.

To test it, I then deleted the item and emptied the Deleted Items folder
I then did a send/receive and checked the web email site.
THe email was now gone.

Summary: Moving it didn't remove it from the server which means Outlook might not work for us.

Any other ideas?

Hmmm. I'd swear that used to work, but I just tried it and it didn't.
Another option for you is to *copy* the messages from your Inbox to the new
PST, then delete them from the original file. That should give you the
desired effect, though unfortunately with more steps.
