Is it safe to remove icons after the program has been downloaded, I mean the
icon that one opens to run the program...my desktop is full of these. sro
this may not be a IE question specifically.

You should also have an icon in the Start menu that opens the program. If
so, feel free to delete the desktop icon.

So just so I have it clear...all these "package" icons that sit on my desktop
after the downloaded program is properly installed can safely be removed?
Thank you for your quick response by the way.

I don't know what a "package icon" is.

During installation, a program will typically ask if you want a shortcut to
the program placed on the desktop and in the Start menu. You don't need to
have one in both places - it's merely a matter of convenience. If you don't
mind opening the Start menu to lauch the program, you don't need a shortcut
on your desktop.

yup. just be sure that the icon is a shortcut. shortcut icons will
have a small right-curving arrow at the bottom left of the icon.

If by "package icons" you mean the icon for the file you downloaded to
install the program - it's up to you. If you paid for the program, it's
best to move these to another folder in case you have to reinstall it later.
If it's a free program that you can easily download again, then go ahead and
delete it.
