Hi everyone.

With Windows XP Professional, is there a way to remove all of the
various Hotfix listings in Add/Remove Software, without actually
uninstalling them?

If so, can it be done without using any third-party software or
freeware?

If third-party utilities are required, can you please recommend
freeware that can accomplish this? Thank you!

If you wish to safely remove the "uninstall files" for the
Hotfixes (i.e. $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ files shown in Windows Explorer)
and cleanup your Add/Remove Programs list, visit MS-MVP Doug Knox's
excellent website for instructions.

Remove Hotfix Backup files and the Add/Remove Programs Registry entries

Am I correct in assuming the backup files Doug refers to on his web
site is not the same as the actual hot fixes? I'm assuming the backup
files are the original ones Hotfix replaces, and can be safely deleted
via his utility if I'm sure I will not be rolling back. Am I right?

Well, one should never assume <G>, but you're correct. These are the files
that were replaced by the Hotfix. If you don't need to remove the hotfix
then you can safely delete these files.

Once you remove just the listings you'll also lose the
capability of uninstalling the Hotfixes at a later date
if you decide to do so.

For the Hot Fix ?, Follow the advise given prior to this.
(ie: Doug Knox site)
To hide some of the "clutter" in add/remove such as
programs you know that you will keep try this

http://www.webattack.com/get/addremovecleaner.html
This works on xp and does NOT remove the program it only
blocks the listing, very helpful if you have numerous
listings
