Is there an article on safely removing FP extensions from the server and
continuing to use FP to publish to the same server ( minus the FP
extensions )

Looking for issues to look out for, pit falls etc, what Files to delete on
the Local Client running FP and which not to delete.

We know we need to change to FTP which is no problem.

If you remove the FP extensions, then FTP must be enabled on the server/site to upload, and any
features or functions requiring the extensions will not longer function, such as forms, discussion
web, guest book, subwebs/sites, certain features of shared borders, the ability to edit the live
site directly on the server in FP, ability to make functional backup of the site (publish), if local
copy is lost, etc.

You would not remove anything from your local copy, except to use other means of processing forms,
discussion web, guest book, etc.

Why is that you feel a need to change to uploading via FTP?

If you feel your current issue is a results of installing
a Service Pack or security update, please contact

If the problem can be shown to have been caused by a
security update, then there is usually no charge for the call.

Thanks for reply

Two reasons we are removing it.

#1 FP adds a lot of stuff to the site that we dont need and it hogging space
and resources on the server.

#2 It keeps re writing the htsaccess file so we can not run certain type of
scripts that need to have access to the .htsaccess

If we remove the FP extensions, do we delete any folders on the web server
that are no longer needed

You can delete all of _vti folders.

FP really doesn't add a lot of extra stuff, but that does depend on what feature you use/select.

I have heard about the .htaccess issue, but never been impacted by it since I only host on Windows
IIS web servers.
