Removing/Disabling "Error checker" (aka scandisk) and another problem.

I have two pretty serious but totally unrelated problems with windows xp
pro:
1 -
I need to disable scandisk for boot-up. No matter how I shut down my
computer it will try to check my secondary drive and if I don't cancel
it in the 10 seconds it gives me it just locks up and I have to shut it
off. If there is a fix for this that is great but I have always had a
loathing for microsoft's "disk checker's" so I really want to disable
it completely.

2 -
Major windows functions are inoperable. For instance, windows task
manager. When I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL it comes up for a second and then just
goes away. This is also the case with device manager and anything that
is pretty crucial to running windows XP.

help! (please!)

Thanks,

TG

No. 2 is because you are virus infected. The virus is protecting itself from you.

No. 1 autochk.exe is a NT program (not a windows program). It run's the boot time chkdsk. Delete it. Though it indicates there is a problem with your secondary drive of some sort. Try backing it up, formatting it, and copy the data back.
