Removing DC

I have a DC that I want to remove. We currently have 3
domain controllers and feel that only 2 are need. The
current domain controller was a Global Catalog, but not
any longer. Are there any necessary steps that must be
followed or recommended before during or after removal of
a Domain Controller?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You have to ensure that is it not running any of the FSMO
roles. Look at this Technet Article,
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=255504
to see step by step on how to do this using
Ntdsutil.exe. Then run DCPROMO on the server to demote
it.

Hi,

Just run DCPromo from start/run. The DCPromo tool will handle FSMO role
transfers and when complete the former DC will be a member server.
