Removing DC role from Exchange 2000 server

Hello,

I have an Exchange 2000 server which also is acting as a DC.
I would like to remove this role from the server.

Will i run into trouble if i just run DCPROMO and remove the
DC role ?.

Is there somthing that i need to be aware off before i do it ?.

Beg borrow or steal another server. Install Exchange and move the
Exchange mailboxes, public and system folders to the temporary server.
Make sure that all mail is going through the new server. Remove Exchange
from the original server, then demote it. Reinstall Exchange and move
everything back again. Remove Exchange from the temporary server and
remove it.

That's the safest way....if you take backups at every step.

If you can justify a new server (as upgrade for an old server for
example) you could just move Exchange to the new server.
