Hi all.. I have read several posts and scoured the net for help on
this but i cannot find a definitive answer so hoped you could help..
Have (had) 3 domain controllers, say DC1, 2, 3,.. DC1 was Ex 2K and
Win2k SP3 but died a terrible death and there was no chance of
recovery.,. Luckily this was purely Exchange 2000 and 3 days later we
were de-commissioning it anyway.. I have tried to remove this server
with NTDS UTIL but most of the posts here say connect to that server
to remove objects but obviously cannot as its not here anymore.. Am i
being stupid.. Can i not just connect to another DC and delete the
records from there.. I am no NTDSUtil guru but cannot find a way
around this .. Many thanks in advance.. PS i have read Q216498

Regards

Craig

Of course you can't connect to a dead server, but you have to connect to
another live DC, because you are doing a metadata cleanup and this must be
done from a live DC. I have used this procedure and never had any problems.
See Q216498 again.
