Removing contacts from Lists

I have followed the procedure for removing contacts from my mailing list and they no longer show in the list but Outlook is still sending to them. In an email, when I expand the list in the bcc: field, these 'deleted' contacts are still there. How do I delete them permanently? I am using Outlook 2003 from Office Professional 2003.

To what list are you referring? The suggested names list for autocompletion?

No, it's just a distribution list of contacts I created

Did you try either the Remove button or the Update Now button from within
the DL?

Perhaps you could start out by telling us exactly what you've done, what's
happened, and exactly how you are sending these messages. I'm having a hard
time trying to guess all of these details. It's rather a waste of time to
come up with suggestions only to have you tell me you've already tried them.

I thought my first post had sufficient info - sorry. OK, here is what happens: I have created a DL from my contacts file. When I send mail to this DL, I put the list name in the bcc: field. I am constantly adding and deleting names from this list. When I delete a name from the DL, I highlight the name, hit the 'remove' button, hit the 'update now' button, then the 'save and close' when I am done. The names disappear from the DL and I never see them there again. I also delete the name from my contacts file. My problem is that I am still sending to these deleted names. I have discovered that when I expand the DL name in the bcc: field in my email, these names are there. I can delete them from the expanded bcc: field and that keeps that particular email from going to them, however, as soon as I do another email, the names appear again

What happens if you delete the address from the Contact Record first, then
use Update now to remove it from the DL?

Either that or just recreate the DL from scratch, whichever is easier.
A couple of rules of thumb when it comes to DL's: Never try to manipulate
the data within the DL itself. Always change data in the underlying Contact
Record on which the DL is based, then hope the "Update Now" button works (it
often doesn't). DL's are fragile, buggy, and often more trouble than they're
worth.

Sorry, I was away for a few days. Yes, your solution does work. Nice
little bug, that - thanks for your help. I presume I will have to add those
addresses backinto the Contacts file, then add them to the DL, then follow
the procedure as above to get rid of them.
