I was told that removing the CMOS chip and battery would
clear out an error i got with a new RAM install. I'm
getting 3 beeps when i boot up my PC right now and it
just sits there and doesn't do anthing. I looked up the
3 beeps and it means that there is an error with the
first 64k of RAM. Will removing the CMOS chip and
battery fix this error?

No, it will not. Did you try the suggestions I mentioned
in my post?

It's entirely possible something is fried.

Would installing the RAM in the 3rd slot not the one
closest to the single DIMM i had originally caused it?
Or maybe seeding it backwards?

It's impossible to know what exactly caused it after the
fact. It could have been putting it in backwards, it may
not have been. If you didn't ground yourself, static
electricity could have shocked a component on the
motherboard, perhaps the RAM.

The important thing at this point is to figure out if
your old RAM is busted as well. I laid out the course of
action you need to take earlier.

Bad RAM is bad RAM. Resetting the bios to defaults, which is what occurs
when you remove the battery for half an hour or so, will NOT fix your RAM
problem. Get new RAM.

Most motherboards have the CMOS chip hard soldered onto the motherboard.
Forget about removing it. Will not solve bad RAM problems anyway!
