I have 2 hdd 'c' has Win2000 and 'd' has xp pro I would like to remove the 'c' drive (set as master) I want to use the 'c' drive in another machine and make the 'd' drive become 'c' but I don't want to lose all my links.
1. Do I need to disconnect all my cd burners etc before swapping out the drives

2. Do I need to back up my registry for this move (I will back up my data files) and if I lose any apps I can just re-install them

Thanks.

If you did somehow change the drive letter to C, just about nothing would
work since it would all be pointing to D.

When you install that drive in another computer, you're probably going to
have to do a repair install of Windows to get it to work, by the way. And
you'll probably need to reactivate.

Just for security, it would be wise to back up anything important before you
move the drive. Software-wise, something could go wrong, however unlikely.
You could also get clumsy and drop the drive.

Warren:
Here are the steps:
Boot Win XP and edit the registry -- search for "D:\"
Replace every instance of "D:\" with "C:\" [this shouldn't take longer
than 4 or 5 hours]
Edit your boot.ini to reflect loss of Win 2000 and the changes in hard
drives
Make your hardware changes
Do a repair install

Good luck -- you are going to need it
