I have two problems. When I log off or reboot my system my
home page is changed from the one that it is last set to a
page "search page" that I have recently visited. Also when
rebooting pages or links are added to my bookmarks. These
are links that I have visited.

most likely these links have written code to my system
without me knowing it. And when I reboot they
automatically show back up in my bookmark page.

Thanks

When you surf around the internet you get into all sorts
of sites. Even if you have updated your
spybot/adaware/security software programs some of these
sites have little windows that popup. Last night I
searched for a particular word in google-web and visited
70 random sites (none porn).
Here are the site popup results: (12 total)
1: make this site my homepage? (dir+news similar to yahoo)
1: blank window 3" x 3" (someones personal homepage)
1: wrong name on certificate (financial site)
1: advertisement for children toys.
1: re-direct to another site for more information?
2: download a font? (ch/jp)
2: visiting secure site? (subject not a security issue)
3: subscribe to hard copy magazines? (all religious)

Even if I pick NO it will change my homepage. So I pick
the corner X in window frame and check my homepage. (OK)
The blank window popup picked the X but would not close.
Opened task manager and stopped that IE6 browser.

After surfing the 70 sites I removed cookies/history/temp
files and ran sypbot/adaware/anti-virus. System clean.
Logoff/logon and everything normal. Checked AOL and FREE
yahoo emails and NO spam (none this morning either). Did
not fill out any forms on any sites. Just doing research
reading for school project. Got only 3 favorites out of
all this that I will visit again for more information.

Wish I had recorded the above 12 popup sites but was not
thinking about writing this message. In future I will
create list of site(s) and post in newsgroup.

These little popups appear to be 'official' harmless and
similar to the your 'security site' popups. They are not
but you can see there is tendency to pick the wrong
response when these popup appear. If one of these
appears check your homepage after visiting the site.
Your statement "without me knowing it" is probably you
did not know but you thought you were safe because you
have the blockers/firewall/anti-virus.

You are not safe when surfing...you have to be
careful surfing out there folks!

Oops...I forget the one site "add this site to my
bookmarks?" with yes/no options. Total of 13 sites with
popups out of 70 is not bad today.
