I know it's possible, but I can't remember how I did it
and I can't seem to find the instruction anywhere. I
seem to remember that there were two ways. One was to
edit the registry and another was with an external
program. If anyone has this information, would you
please leave it here?

Thanks.

Your are looking for Microsoft Power Toys. Try this URL

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Tweak UI will give you an option to remove the shortcut arrows under the
Explorer shortcut section.
