How do you remove an item from the XP start-up list?

On each program you don't want to start automatically, check its
Options to see if it has the choice not to start. Many can easily
and best be stopped that way. If that doesn't work, run MSCONFIG
from the Start | Run line, and on the Startup tab, uncheck the
programs you don't want to start automatically.

When I click on this file, nothing appears to happen. So,
I cannot open it and get to an options box as you
suggest.

When I uncheck it in the start-up tab, the system will do
a selective start-up instead of a normal start-up. The
selective start-up gives me a dialog box as the system
opens telling me that I should use the normal start-up.
When I click on the box to not show it to me again, it
still does it as I reboot.

You know about MSConfig and the selective startup. The easier way is to use a program like TweakUI for Win XP or XP Manager. they give you better control over some of the system functions including what starts automatically.

To remove this reminder, try this:

1. Click Start | run | type "msconfig /auto". check the option "Don't show......." and press OK.
(or)
2. Download fix from: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_nomsconfig.htm
